Simple Strip Layout Calculator

Lay out a progressive die strip: set the progression, station spacing, and material usage to get the most parts per foot.

Strip layout sets how a part is nested and progressed down the coil. The progression (pitch) is the feed distance per stroke; material utilization measures how much of the strip becomes parts versus scrap.

A tight, well-piloted layout maximizes parts per foot while keeping the carrier strong enough to feed.

Formula: Utilization % = Part area / (Progression × Strip width) × 100

Worked Example

  1. A part of 1.5 in² on a 2.0 in wide strip at 1.0 in progression.
  2. Utilization = 1.5 / (1.0 × 2.0) = 75%.
