Die Springs Calculator

Compute die spring force, deflection, and recommended travel so you can pick the right spring for the job.

A die spring’s force is its rate times how far it is compressed. Pre-load plus working deflection must stay within the spring’s allowable travel for the chosen duty class to get reasonable fatigue life.

Formula: Force = Spring rate × Deflection

Worked Example

  1. A 1,000 lb/in spring compressed 0.250 in delivers 250 lb.
  2. Keep total deflection under the maker’s max for that color/duty to protect spring life.
