Sheet Nesting Calculator

Estimate parts per sheet and material utilization to nest blanks efficiently and cut scrap.

Nesting fits as many blanks on a sheet as possible. Parts per sheet times the per-part value minus scrap drives material yield, often the largest variable cost in stamping.

Formula: Parts/sheet ≈ (Sheet area × Utilization) / Part area

Worked Example

  1. A 48 × 96 in sheet (4,608 in²) at 80% utilization, part area 12 in².
  2. Parts ≈ (4,608 × 0.80) / 12 ≈ 307 blanks per sheet.
