Springback Estimator Calculator

Predict springback and the overbend angle required so parts finish at the target angle after release.

After the punch lifts, elastic recovery opens the bend. Higher strength, larger radii, and thinner material all increase springback.

Compensate by overbending to a tighter angle so the part relaxes onto the nominal angle, or by bottoming/coining to set the bend.

Formula: Overbend angle = Target + Springback compensation

Worked Example

  1. If a 90° target springs back by 3°, form the part to about 87° so it relaxes to 90°.
  2. Verify on a sample — springback is sensitive to lot-to-lot material variation.
