Coining squeezes material in a closed die at very high pressure so it flows to fill the die exactly, producing sharp detail, tight tolerances, and a controlled thickness. In bending, "coining" the bend sets the angle and eliminates springback.
Because it relies on bottoming the material, coining requires far more tonnage than air bending.
