Center of Pressure Calculator

Locate the center of pressure of all cutting and forming stations so the die load aligns with the press centerline.

With many punches spread across a die, the resultant cutting force does not act at the die center. The center of pressure is the force-weighted average position of all the cuts.

Aligning it with the press ram centerline avoids tipping moments that cause uneven clearance and accelerated wear.

Formula: X̄ = Σ(Fᵢ·xᵢ) / ΣFᵢ, Ȳ = Σ(Fᵢ·yᵢ) / ΣFᵢ

Worked Example

  1. Two punches: 10 tons at x=1.0 in and 30 tons at x=5.0 in.
  2. X̄ = (10×1 + 30×5) / (10+30) = 160/40 = 4.0 in from the reference — set the die so this lands on the ram center.
