Material Cost Calculator

Calculate material cost per part from price, blank size, and utilization to build accurate quotes.

Material cost per part is the blank weight times price per pound, divided by utilization to account for the scrap web. It is usually the largest single cost in a stamped part.

Formula: Cost/part = (Blank weight × Price per lb) / Utilization

Worked Example

  1. A 0.40 lb blank at $0.55/lb with 80% utilization.
  2. Cost/part = (0.40 × 0.55) / 0.80 = $0.275.
