Transfer Die

Tooling where the part is mechanically moved between separate die stations rather than carried on a strip.

What it means on the floor

In transfer die operations, individual blanks are moved from station to station by a mechanical transfer system instead of remaining attached to a carrier strip. This frees the part geometry from strip-layout constraints.

Transfer tooling suits larger parts and deep-formed shapes where a progressive carrier would be impractical.

Applying the term

Interpret Transfer Die in the context of the drawing, governing standard, and customer requirement in front of you — the same word can carry different limits in design, quality, and production documents. Check whether a stated value is nominal, minimum, maximum, or reference-only, and whether it applies before forming, after forming, or after heat treatment.
